On Sunday, as FC Edmonton lost to Atlanta by a 2-0 score, Semenets was on his way out of the country, after securing his release from the Eddies. “I’ve come to a mutual agreement with the staff,” Semenets wrote in a message to The 11. “I want to basically pursue other opportunities and the staff has kindly let me leave early to try out in Europe.” Alex Semenets Semenets was a regular part of the first team in 2011, mainly coming off the bench as a super sub. But the former member of the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency had been used almost exclusively on the reserve team this year. He becomes the third Canadian player to come to a mutual agreement to part ways with the club this season, joining midfielder Kyle Yamada and defender Fabrice Lassonde, who left the club this summer. Semenets didn’t specify where in Europe he’d be auditioning. But Semenets, though he grew up in Canada, was born in the Ukraine, so he does have that advantage when trying his luck across the Atlantic Semenets played in 13 NASL games in 2011, scoring once. He played a total of 353 minutes.
