FC Edmonton owner Tom Fath is in New York City for the Board of Governors’ meetings — and is also meeting with the manufacturer of the stands that are to be installed at Clarke Stadium, hoping to get the expansion plans for the facility back on track.

Halfway through the season, and Clarke Stadium still has just the one main grandstand, as plans to expand the facility to 4,000 seats have met with delay after delay. A major issue is ensuring that the new seats meet Alberta code. Fath will be in New York until Friday, and hopes are to have a solution that will make the provincial regulators happy.

Of course, fans have also been frustrated because every single game has been dry this season as the team has struggled with the stadium expansion issue. Team general manager Tom Leip confirmed that the team has placed a liquor-licence application to the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, but have yet to get it back with a stamp of approval.

The team will be ready to serve liquor as soon as the papers are back. But, FC Edmonton is counting on having liquor service available for the Aug. 4 Saturday night home date to the Minnesota Stars.
