Great day for former TFC players By Charles Posted on February 25, 2011 Comments Off on Great day for former TFC players 0 650 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter OBrian WhiteThursday was a pretty good day for ex-Toronto FC players. Maurice Edu, the No. 1 pick in the 2007 SuperDraft and rookie of the year that same season, scored the goal that sent Rangers through to the final 16 of the Europa Cup a minute and a half into stoppage time against Sporting Lisbon. After 90 minutes had expired in the second leg at the Portuguese capital, the home team was up 2-1, 3-2 on aggregate. But Edu, who led a line of Rangers players storming the goal to run on to a low cross, got to the ball first and nudged it over the line, giving the Scottish side the key road goal to send it through. O’Brian White, the 2009 first-round pick who lost his way at Toronto FC in 2010, had a big day for his new club, the Seattle Sounders, albeit against much weaker opposition. White, who calls Scarborough, Ont. home but represents Jamaica, scored twice and pressured a defender into an own goal in a 7-0 rout of the University of Central Florida in preseason action. White was snatched from TFC by the Vancouver Whitecaps during the expansion draft, and then was flipped by the Whitecaps to their Cascadia rivals for allocation money.
