FIFA calendar features Oct. 16 Australia-Canada friendly By Steven Sandor Posted on September 4, 2013 Comments Off on FIFA calendar features Oct. 16 Australia-Canada friendly 0 753 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter FIFA’s calendar has indicated that Canada’s men’s team will face Australia on Oct. 16 in London, England. It’s not unusual for FIFA to announce the games via its calendar ahead of the respective national associations. Often, national associations must wait for all of the contracts to be signed, and then coordinate their announcements. FIFA often gets the information ahead of time. For example, FIFA had last May’s friendly between Canada and Costa Rica on its calendar weeks before it was announced by the Canadian Soccer Association. For Canada, the game would see the team face former coach Holger Osieck. The man who steered Canada to the 2000 Gold Cup title is now Australia’s boss. New Canadian coach Benito Floro is currently running his first national-team camp in his home country of Spain. Thirty-three players were named to the roster, and friendlies will be played against Mauritania Sept. 8 and 10. FIFA’s own website has a disclaimer, warning that it’s calendar can be set using third-party information and should not be taken as 100 per cent accurate.
