After teams from the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League could not make the trip, the University of Sherbrooke’s Vert & Or team, augmented with selected players from the Quebec Elite Soccer League, has accepted the invite to head down to Mexico and represent our country at FIFRA’s world club championships.

According to FIFRA, Edmonton is to play the Ecuadorean national champs Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. local time.

The Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League has been dealt a major blow. Tony Pesce, president of the Winnipeg Alliance, has confirmed that the team won’t play this season — and won’t come back at all unless its travel costs can be eased.

Kowalchuk wrote in an e-mail to The 11 that “it would be premature” to confirm that Vancouver will or will not have a team competing in the CMISL in 2012.

The Professional Arena Soccer League wants to work with the Major Indoor Soccer League. While the United Soccer Leagues, which took over the administration of the MISL last week, has made it clear that it thinks that its league is by the best indoor league on the continent, the PASL hopes the two leagues can discuss interleague play and competing against each other in Cup tournaments.

And, while the priority is to stabilize the MISL’s American base, USL will entertain Canadian suitors, president Tim Holt stated in an e-mail to The 11. “While our immediate focus is on ensuring the strength and performance of our current seven member teams going into the 2011-12 season, there is a high level of interest in the MISL from prospective teams in the United States and Canada,” stated Holt.

Nick Garcia has found a new team. The ex-Toronto FC defender and whipping boy has signed a one-game deal to play an indoor exhibition game with the Kansas Magic, which will enter the Professional Arena Soccer League in the 2011-2012 season.

FC Edmonton wrapped up its Arizona preseason schedule with a 5-0 win over a bunch of trialists looking for work with the PASL expansion club, the Phoenix Monsoon.

But, Antoniuk was in Cincinnati Saturday, helping the Sockers defend their crown, as they beat Mexico’s Guerreros de La Raza de Guadalajara 10-6 in the PASL final. Antoniuk scored in the victory.

Dan Antoniuk’s trial with FC Edmonton may have gone too well. The San Diego Sockers, Antoniuk’s current indoor-soccer club, confirmed Friday that he won’t be returning to Cincinnati for the Professional Arena Soccer League’s North American Championship. Not because Antoniuk is still with FC Edmonton, but because he accepted a one-game trial with FC Dallas.
