After a nervous start, the Canadians got five second-half goal en route to a 5-0 win over Haiti Thursday in Panama City. Catherine Charron-Delage, of the W-League’s Laval Cometes, came on as a halftime substitute and scored twice. Canada also got two goals from the University of Michigan’s Nkem Ezurike. Nkem Ezurike The opening goal was, well, a bit lucky – and it opened the floodgates. Haitian defender Dienuise Jean Baptiste tried to clear a ball from the penalty area, but the ball deflected off Ezurike and went into the Haitian goal. And, as is so often the case in soccer, the one fluke goal led to an onslaught. Jenna Richardson also scored, which mean Thursday was a big day for Oregon State University. Richardson is teammates at OSU with Chelsea Buckland, who set up Robyn Gayle’s last-gasp winning goal over Italy at the Cyprus Cup. Richardson also set up one of Charron-Delage’s goals. Canada will face Jamaica on Saturday.
