Canadian U20 prospects combine to propel Laval into W-League final By Steven Sandor Posted on July 27, 2013 Comments Off on Canadian U20 prospects combine to propel Laval into W-League final 0 578 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Valerie Sanderson PHOTO: CANADA SOCCER Canadian soccer fans will be more than pleased to see the combination of Amandine Pierre-Louis and Valerie Sanderson creating a goal for the national team at next year’s U-20 World Cup. The dynamic duo combined for the extra time goal that will send the Laval Cometes to the W-League final. With the semifinal match against the Carolina Elite Cobras tied 2-2 in extra time Friday, Pierre-Louis provided the 110th-minute cross that Sanderson was able to direct into the goal. The goal gave Laval a 3-2 win and a date in Sunday’s final in Bradenton, Fla. against the Pali Blues. Both Sanderson and Pierre-Louis were named to national U-20 coach Andrew Olivieri’s roster for a pre-World Cup training camp that began this past week in Denmark (CLICK HERE). Those call-ups might have left Laval badly shorthanded for the championships weekend. But the call was made to leave Sanderson and Pierre-Louis in the W-League. Canada’s U-20s will play friendlies against Norway on July 31 and Denmark Aug. 2. Christina Julien scored the opener for Laval, while Kelsey Wilson gave the Cometes a 2-1 halftime lead. If Laval, the No. 1 seed going into this weekend’s final four, beats Pali Blues Sunday, the W-League title will remain in Canada for the second consecutive year. Ottawa took the title last season.
