Canadian striker Marcus Haber announced via his Twitter account that he has signed with English side Stevenage FC. The former Vancouver Whitecap made a series of Tweets Thursday. “I just thought I’d let it known now that I will not be returning to (Scottish Premier League side) St. Johnstone for this coming season. I had a great experience at the club and wish the Saints the best. “I’ve signed with Stevenage F.C. and am very excited and motivated for the new season in League 1.” Haber will play under coach Gary Smith, who led the Colorado Rapids to an MLS Cup title in 2010 — when his side beat FC Dallas in extra time at BMO Field. Last season, Stevenage ruined its chances of automatic promotion to the Championship by not being able to turn more of its draws into wins. In 2011-12, the team lost just nine of 46 league matches, but drew 19 games, which translated into a sixth-place finish. Stevenage lost in the promotion playoffs to Sheffield United. Haber played for Canada in the recent CONCACAF Olympic qualfiers, and scored in the semifinal loss to Mexico.
