Australia is coming off a 6-0 loss to France. The Socceroos form has been so poor, that the Football Federation Australia sacked coach Holger Osieck after the French humiliation.

Does that mean Canada, shut out twice by Mauritania in September, may have a chance for its first win under new coach Benito Floro Tuesday, when it faces the Socceroos at Craven Cottage?

“For us, it (the result) doesn’t matter,” Floro said through a translator in a media conference call Thanksgiving Monday. “We play (so we can play) in our system.”

(Ed. note: The brackets are necessary as some of the translation wasn’t easy to decipher, and to present it word-for-word would be a challenge to read)

Floro confirmed that veteran Atiba Hutchinson would not be available due to injury, and that he likes David Edgar, normally used on the back line, to move into a holding midfield position. F

loro said the program needs a lot of camps in order to bring along young players and those who are holding depth spots in professional teams. He knows that not a lot of the Canadian players available to him are holding starting jobs. And he understands there’s not much he can do about it right now.

“There are not enough Canadian players starting in MLS to play a strong structure,” said Floro. Later in the call, he addressed the Canadians-in-MLS question further. “It’s not an ideal situation, but it is a real (situation). I can’t stop my work.”

So, he said that he will look to instruct young players (Daniel Stanese got a call-up, while Queens Park Rangers youth players Dylan Carreiro and Michael Petrasso were called up to camp) and Canadians who are in depth positions in professional clubs. Floro understands the hand he’s been dealt — and he knows Canada isn’t in a glory period when it comes to players having high-profile starting jobs.

And, that means final scores in friendlies don’t mean very much right now.
