Canada to face North Korea, Argentina, Norway at U-20 Women’s World Cup By Steven Sandor Posted on June 4, 2012 Comments Off on Canada to face North Korea, Argentina, Norway at U-20 Women’s World Cup 0 545 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Christabel Oduro, Jenna Richardson and the rest of the Canadian U-20 squad now know who they will face when the U-20 Women’s World Cup kicks off in Japan this August. The draw was held Monday morning, and Canada finds itself in Group C along with North Korea, Norway and Argentina. “We are fairly familiar with our opponents based on research, but have no experience of playing against them,” Canadian Andrew Olivieri coach was quoted on FIFA.com after the draw. “Our toughest opponent should be Korea DPR.” North Korea won the U-20 Women’s World Cup back in 2006. But that’s trivia — because of the high turnover in junior-level sports, you can’t really compare what happened six years ago to the current day. All of those players have long since moved on. Little Big Red lost the final of the CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Championship 2-1 to the United States, as it surrendered two goals in the final 11 minutes of the match. But, Canada ha already qualified for the U-20 World Cup with its semifinal 6-0 win over the host Panamanians, with Oduro and Richardson each scoring twice. Canada’s Group C schedule is as follows: Aug. 20 vs. Argentina (Kobe, Japan) Aug. 23 vs. Norway (Kobe, Japan) Aug. 27 vs. North Korea (Saitama, Japan) RELATED: Little Big Red loses CONCACAF U-20 final to the U.S. (CLICK) Mission accomplished: Canadians qualify for U-20 Women’s World Cup (CLICK)
