Camilo earns Whitecaps their second POTW award in a row By Steven Sandor Posted on June 24, 2013 Comments Off on Camilo earns Whitecaps their second POTW award in a row 0 620 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Camilo Camilo’s two-goal, one-assist performance last Wednesday impressed enough of the voters on the North American Soccer Reporters POTW panel to give him the lion’s share of the first-place votes. Even though the Whitecaps didn’t play on the weekend, no MLS player could come up with as headturning a performance as Camilo did on Wednesday. Chivas USA took an early lead, but the Whitecaps stormed back with two goals in first-half stoppage time. Camilo nudged the ball over to Jordan Harvey for the equalizer, and then got the go-ahead goal as he tucked a shot inside the post after making a nice cut to beat a defender. The Brazilian added the icing on the cake with an insurance goal that took a deflection off a defender in the 81st minute. Since the shot was goal-bound, Camilo retained credit for the goal. Last week, Whitecap striker Kenny Miller was named the Player of the Week. How The 11 voted: Camilo. With the two goals this week, the Brazilian now has eight on the season, just two off the league lead. He’s scoring again like it was 2012 — but, maybe most importantly, when you watch him play, he’s staying on his feet a lot more. Ever since his controversial fall in the penalty area earned the Whitecaps a penalty in the first leg of their Amway Canadian Championship semifinal against FC Edmonton, Camilo has not been the player-you-love-to-hate; he’s showing us all just how quick and strong a player he can be.
