Bryan Arguez… Back in Impact blue, for now
For most of the FC Edmonton players, their season came to an end at the final whistle of Sunday’s 2-2 draw with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Not so for midfielder Bryan Arguez. FC Edmonton general manager Tom Leip confirmed after Sunday’s match that the plane tickets were already purchased — and that Arguez would be heading back to Montreal to rejoin the Impact. Arguez came to FC Edmonton on loan from the Impact in early July. He took over the holding midfield role with the Eddies and didn’t miss a game through the remainder of the season. Calm and collected on the ball, he was a stabilizing force for Edmonton, though his presence wasn’t enough to will the Eddies into the NASL playoffs. Arguez spent last season with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, and impressed the Impact brass enough that he was brought over to Montreal to join the team for its first MLS season. But Arguez didn’t see any MLS playing time with the Impact — and, with reserve games being few and far between, he wasn’t getting any meaningful time on the pitch in any way. So, he was sent to Edmonton, a team that had coveted Arguez and had tried to sign him before Montreal got his signature. Arguez will be back with the Impact for the remainder of the season, but the Eddies confirmed that they will see if they can negotiate a deal so Arguez can make a permanent move to Clarke Stadium.
