The MLS disciplinary committee felt that the Montreal Impact midfielder deserved a red. Just before the final whistle of Wednesday’s 3-0 home loss to Toronto FC, Bernier made a two-footed lunge at Johnson. The attempted tackle enraged the Reds’ Jamaican forward, and some words and shoves between he and Impact player Collen Warner were exchanged after the fact. But, the Disciplinary Committee, as part of its mandate, reviews all cards issued in games. And, on Friday it came to the decision that Bernier should have been sent off. Bernier was fined an undisclosed amount and is suspended for one game, which he’ll serve by missing Saturday’s match at D.C. United. The suspension adds insult to injury, as it comes on the heels of the Impact’s most humiliating of the season.
