For the past four years, Toronto FC did most of its training at home on at the Opine Glen Soccer Centre in Oakville and at an artificial-turf field at Cherry Beach on Toronto’s east side. As well, Toronto FC announced a loan deal that will bring former Manchester United prospect Richard Eckersley to Canada from Burnley. The deal keeps Eckersley, who has made only three appearances with Burnley since signing with the club in 2003, with Toronto FC until January, 2012.

FIFA’s letter is a troubling development for Canadians 15 Apr 2011 Being a great country is FAR more important than being a good FIFA member. Maybe it’s time for us to set an example for other countries to follow. FIFA can’t decide Saturday to suspend the Canadian Soccer Association. A suspension of a program is a process that usually takes months to complete. Board meetings have to be held. Reports have to be prepared.
Whitecaps date with Man City could come back to haunt them 14 Apr 2011 The right opponent, in this case, is Manchester City. But is it the right date? The Whitecaps announced Thursday that it will play Manchester City on Monday, July 18 at Empire Field. It’s part of the World Football Challenge series. But, how will that game stretch coach Teitur Thordarson’s ranks? A high-profile international is a great PR exercise. But, the Whitecaps are scheduled to play at home to the juggernaut that is Real Salt Lake on July 16, and then travel to San Jose on July 20.
FC Edmonton “not concerned” over ASA-CSA dispute 12 Apr 2011 It’s hard to use the term “business as usual” for a club that played it’s first NASL game on Saturday, but FC Edmonton coach Harry Sinkgraven continues to put his team through the paces in Florida, away from the Alberta cold, as it prepares to try and make it two wins a row this Saturday against the Atlanta Silverbacks. The furthest thing from the minds of the club’s brass — and the players — is the current dispute between the Alberta Soccer Association and the Canadian Soccer Association. “No one from any body has contacted us,” said FCE spokesman Andreas Morse.
“A little bit cocky”: FC Edmonton earns historic win 10 Apr 2011 FC Edmonton wants to prove all the naysayers wrong. The club made an impressive statement Saturday, going on the road and beating the Fort Lauderdale Strikers 2-1 in their NASL opener. Substitute Dan Antoniuk scored the winner off a scramble in the box. “We’re confident, we’re a little bit cocky,” said midfielder Shaun Saiko, who scored on a 25-yard screamer to draw FCE level in the second half.

CSA needs to ensure fans can afford Ecuador friendly 7 Apr 2011 If the prices stay at the same level for Ecuador, it’s realistic to expect about the same number of bums in the seats at BMO. Remember, that on June 7, Canada will play the U.S. — a far sexier match-up than Canada-Ecuador — in Detroit. Tickets for that, with service charges, will run from US$29.80 to US$111.60, with service charges. Canada can’t be in a position where one game competes with the other for fan dollars.
