San Jose Earthquakes defender Nana Attakora has been confirmed as the 23rd member of Canada’s roster for the Gold Cup.

The Canadian Soccer Association made Attakora’s spot official on Friday, as final rosters will be submitted to CONCACAF. Those rosters are in effect for the round robin. After the group stage, coach Colin Miller can make up to four changes ahead of the quarter-finals. Of course, that’s assuming that Canada makes it out a group that includes Panama and Mexico.

As Attakora is recovering from a concussion, he won’t have to report to the Canadian camp in Oxnard, Calif. immediately after this weekend’s MLS matches. Miller said that Attakora will remain with the Quakes for an extra week.

Attakora suffered the concussion earlier this year after a collision with Toronto FC’s Doneil Henry. Both will be teammates with the Gold Cup squad.

Have to imagine Nana gets the start next to Edgar over Doneil Henry in the tougher games, he could sit vs Martinique but I think Henry vs Panama and Mexico is too dangerous. Also with SJ signing Clarence Goodson now, Nana might need a new club for the second half of the season, and a good Gold Cup run could help him with that.
