It took just three minutes and seven seconds for the Renniessance to officially take hold in Vancouver.

New coach Martin Rennie, late of the Carolina RailHawks of the NASL has imported a number of new faces and has tried to put his stamp on the team by fostering confidence and positive thinking. Perhaps as a gesture to the members of the Montreal media, Sebastien Le Toux, Alain Rochat and Eric Hassli were made available.

The Montreal Impact held its last preseason workout at B.C, Place Friday afternoon, a day before it takes on the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Impact players went through their paces in a relaxed and leisurely manner, with no scrimmaging and very little intensity, almost as if they were loosening up before a game rather than preparing for their initial MLS foray.

The Vancouver Whitecaps aren’t quite sure what 11 players the Montreal Impact will have on the field when the two teams kick off the MLS season Saturday at B.C. Place. But, Whitecaps’ veteran centre back Jay DeMerit has a pretty good idea of how the visiting team will line up.

If Rennie decides to field a lot of the RailHawks players when the Whitecaps face FC Edmonton, look for a tasty matchup. Remember that there were several incidents — shoving matches and scuffles in the tunnel — when FCE and Carolina faced each other last season.

The RailHawks won the game on penalties after the Whitecaps’ Davide Chiumiento scored a last-gasp equalizer. It was 2-2 after 90 minutes, but the RailHawks were perfect in the penalty shootout, while the Whitecaps were just two for four.

The Whitecaps won the preseason tournament with a 1-0 result over Toronto FC, as Camilo weaved through a group of TFC teenagers and then scored from a very tight angle.
