Having Herdman come out to give the final words at a press conference is like knowing that Rush is saving “2112” for the encore.

But today’s kit was, well, underwhelming. It was as if Nike was like “quick, we need to get Canada a kit in time for this January friendly!” and sent a couple of boxes of generic black shirts and shorts to Spain.

But, Sinclair, Canada's all-time leading scorer, is showing us she's still deserving of the title. She led Canada with eight goals scored in 2018, with four of them coming in the CONCACAF Championships which served as the qualifiers for the 2019 Women's World Cup.

With the game already in hand, Sinclair was introduced at the start of the second half, clearly an effort to get her closer to all-time women’s international goal scoring leader Abby Wambach’s total of 184. On a two-player break, SInclair opted to pass to Huitema for a tap-in rather than take it herself. And when Sinclair got no. 174, she did not scream or raise her arms in triumph. She led her teammates quietly back to half.

But, as Canada preps for the CONCACAF championships — this region’s qualifiers for the 2019 Women’s World Cup — maybe this scrappy 1-0 win was exactly the kind of game that was needed. The Brazilians hacked. They whacked.  The game had very little in terms of flow.

Sunday wasn’t what we’d call a banner day for the Canadian women’s program.

France’s win at home Monday night over the Canadian women’s national team will go as one of the most comprehensive 1-0 wins we’ve ever seen.

Canada finished the tournament with its third straight win after losing the opener to Sweden by  a 3-1 count.
