MUFC has been the most disappointing team in NASL. It finished second from bottom in the spring-season standings, even though they were the pundits’ pick for the title. Now, the goal is to resurrect the club in the fall season.

FC Edmonton coach Colin Miller was happy to get a point on the road in the club’s NASL opener. But he wants more — a lot more — out of the team’s three-game road trip to start the season.

But, as we get ready for this weekend’s kickoff to the NASL spring season, the Rowdies and MUFC are the clear favourites to top the table.

Etienne Barbara was freed of his commitment to join FC Edmonton — and now the 2011 NASL MVP will join the rival Minnesota Stars.

Yet again, Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie has brought one of his former RailHawks charges to Vancouver. American defender Brad Rusin will join former Carolina players Matt Watson, Jun Marques Davidson and goalkeeper Brad Knighton on the Whitecaps roster.

But, due to undisclosed personal and family issues, Barbara was forced to change his mind. And FC Edmonton said it has allowed him to be released from any obligation to the club.

For 75 minutes of Wednesday’s second leg of the club’s Amway Canadian Championship final against the Vancouver Whitecaps, things looked good for FC Edmonton to be Cinderella at the BC Place ball.

If Rennie decides to field a lot of the RailHawks players when the Whitecaps face FC Edmonton, look for a tasty matchup. Remember that there were several incidents — shoving matches and scuffles in the tunnel — when FCE and Carolina faced each other last season.

It’s hard to read too much into a preseason game, but Friday night’s Walt Disney World classic opener between the Vancouver Whitecaps and Montreal Impact presented a couple of interesting storylines.

The San Antonio, Tex, native, who spent the 2011 season with the Reds and was released at the end of the campaign, was signed by the NASL expansion side San Antonio Scorpions on Thursday.
