Crepeau’s knee injury takes him out of U-17 World Cup By Steven Sandor Posted on June 20, 2011 Comments Off on Crepeau’s knee injury takes him out of U-17 World Cup 0 519 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Maxime Crepeau, man with automatic weapon and goalkeeping coach Djamel Laarabi in Mexico. PHOTO: CANADA SOCCER Canada’s best player in Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Uruguay in the opener of the U-17 World Cup is likely done for the tournament. Keeper Maxime Crepeau is out for two weeks — and likely the rest of the tourney if Canada was to advance out of Group C. Crepeau and Uruguayan striker Juan Mascia collided knee-on-knee late in the second half of Sunday’s match. TFC Academy’s Quillan Roberts came in for Crepeau, and was at fault for the third goal of the game, making a poor decision to come off his line and being badly out of position when the ball was sent into an open goal. Had Crepeau not made a series of diving stops, the scoreline could have been even more one-sided. In the end, he gave up a Mascia goal from point-blank range and was beaten on a penalty. Canada plays England on Wednesday, and a loss will likely make the final group-stage game with Rwanda no more than a friendly. Crepeau did not concede a goal at the CONCACAF U-17 championships until extra time of the final match.
