Valentin has really seen his stock diminish over the past two-plus MLS seasons. In 2011, he was the No. 4 overall pick, and then went on to play in 25 games for Chivas USA. The Goats’ decision to not protect Valentin in the Expansion Draft came as a shock — and the Impact looked to have a steal of a deal when it selected the former Generation Adidas player.

“He played very, very well. He didn’t make any mistakes. He was solid and he concentrated,” said Head Coach Marco Schallibaum when asked for his assessment of the youngster’s performance. "He also played a simple game, like I asked of him. He did very well for a first game."

“We’ll be playing one of the best teams in MLS (Seattle) and there’ll be 50,000 people cheering against us but we’ve done everything we can. We showed during the matches in Florida that we were a good team but Saturday is another story.”

“I think we’re a little bit tired of playing each other already. We’re ready to go out and play some games and kick someone else for once,” Valentin said before commenting on the results of the past three weeks. “I think you can see progression with the coaching style and everyone’s getting used to that."

The Montreal Impact continued its postseason tour of Italy with a 4-1 win over Fiorentina’s reserve side.

And, like we have seen so often this year, you take the good with the bad when it comes to Ricketts’ play. But, are the highlight-reel saves covering for the fact that he’s been making too many fundamental errors to continue as a No. 1 keeper in MLS?

After 80 minutes of 0-0 soccer, Saturday’s match between the Philadelphia Union and Montreal Impact exploded with three goals in the final 10 minutes and change.

“The guys deserve all the credit tonight because on the field they dug in and wouldn’t let this one slip and we got a desperate three points,” said head coach Jesse Marsch.

“I was fined last week for claiming that the referee was one-sided. I’m not sure how scathing that was but obviously I’m not going to be able to make comments but I think it’s pretty obvious what happened out there,” said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch, obviously less than thrilled with the efforts of referee Sorin Stoica.

Team president Joey Saputo shared his displeasure with the evening’s entertainment, tweeting a short and far from sweet “Absolute disgrace, enough said,” at the conclusion of play.
