With no real consensus No. 1 pick at this year’s MLS SuperDraft, Toronto FC decided to take the money.

And it got good news, big time. As the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention sets up shop in Indianapolis, NASL stole the thunder from MLS — which is holding its SuperDraft on Thursday — with two major announcements.

Cesar, though, at 34, is just one year younger than his coach, Ryan Nelsen. The team already has Torsten Frings, who is 36. Striker Eric Hassli turns 32 this spring. Danny Koevermans is 34. Midfielder Terry Dunfield is 30. Central defender Danny Califf is 32.

It’s hard to imagine any MLS SuperDraft prospect who has done more to help himself than Canadian midfielder Kyle Bekker.

Yet again, Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie has brought one of his former RailHawks charges to Vancouver. American defender Brad Rusin will join former Carolina players Matt Watson, Jun Marques Davidson and goalkeeper Brad Knighton on the Whitecaps roster.

Better late than never for Drew Beckie.

Because TSN and RDS, the national rights holders for MLS in Canada, have yet to finalize their television schedules, the majority of home dates for the three Canadian teams don’t have kickoff times.

The former Vancouver Whitecap and San Antonip Scorpion has just been signed by FC Edmonton for the 2013 season.

"My feeling about Ryan is that he's going to be leading this team for five years to come and if I have to wait a couple of months for him to start that process, I can afford to wait," Payne said. "I'd rather do that than make the wrong decision or a decision I didn't want to make for the short term."

“But I can say that the team will bear very little resemblance of the squad that went to Honduras,” said Miller. “It’s my goal to make sure the players who are coming in will be motivated and will want to help the program move forward. Playing for the national team is a privilege, not a divine right.”
