It’s not unprecedented, but it is rare when a Player of the Week winner gets the nod for less than a half’s worth of work. But that’s the case this week, as San Jose Earthquake Steven Lenhart edged out D.C. United’s Maicon Santos for the Player of the Week Award.

D.C. United’s Chris Pontius notched a hat trick in a 4-1 triumph over the New York Red Bulls, and got the most POTW votes from the membership of the North American Soccer Reporters.

Mission accomplished, as the visitors scored first, allowed the opponents to draw even but, unlike the recent past, hung on to pick up the first MLS road point in team history. The result — a 1-1 draw.

For the second time in a row, Thierry Henry is the MLS Player of the Week.

This was an ugly tearjerker of a game, with the ball stuck in midfield, with both teams cancelling each other out.

We tallied up our votes, and came up with our list of how the teams will finish, who will win MLS Cup and who will be the league’s MVP. No need to play the season, now. We have it all figured out.

Caceros, from Ottawa, is on FC Edmonton’s list of players who will head down to Arizona on Monday to take part in the team’s training camp in Casa Grande. Caceros was a big part of Capital City FC’s push to get to the Canadian Soccer League final in 2011, and played 64 career NCAA matches for Syracuse University.

“I’m a firm believer in that and we will have a blueprint in terms of coaching methodology in terms of playing style and good part for me, I’m a teacher by trade so it’s going to be my first experience.”

And St. Mary’s forward Elvir Gigolaj, who was one of the stars of the 2011 CIS Men’s Soccer Championship held in Victoria, wowed in his trial with FC Edmonton and is likely to stick with the team. Gigolaj helped St. Mary’s get all the way to the CIS final. He scored in the championship game, but the Huskies fell to the hosts. Gigolaj scored two extra-time goals in the semifinal win over the University of Alberta.

And, Chivas USA put Canadian defender Ante Jazic on the list. Yes, Jazic is in his mid-30s, but he’d be a significant upgrade for many teams in the fullback slot. He has become a regular starter for the Canadian national side. And, while his age is an issue, it’s hard to believe that a national-team starter can’t be of some value to someone.
