MLS is at that cocoon stage; it was nurtured in a controlled environment filled with salary caps, allocations and draft orders. It beat the odds, as pro soccer hasn’t been a survival industry on this continent. But, soon it will be ready to fly away; commissioner Don Garber has repeated this over and over — that MLS will be one of the world’s top leagues in 10 years.

Finding the goals to turn draws into wins is a priority for the team, but there were no new faces at training sessions Monday at the Commonwealth Fieldhouse.

“For me that is not important,” Camilo said of the race for the Golden Boot. “More important for me is that our club gets up on the table. We are third place [in the Western Conference]."

Camilo, who scored twice in the Whitecaps 3-1 win Sunday over the Chicago Fire, now leads the MLS with 12 tallies this season. And his first goal transformed what was a drab 0-0 affair into a second-half goalfest.

It went like this: You could put the entire team in a sack, then have someone punch it. No matter which player took the punch, “you’d be right.”

On the short end of a 2-0 score by the quarter-hour mark, Montreal were let down by its defence and dominated, as is his custom, by Thierry Henry. The French forward’s goal and pair of helpers ran his lifetime record against the Impact in MLS play to seven goals and three assists in four matches.

“Darren O’Dea went back to Toronto to finalize a transfer. As per club policy we will not discuss terms and cannot provide any further information at this time."

But, the deal is more significant because it suggests a thawing of relations between MLS and NASL, at least when it comes to bringing players under NASL contracts up to the first division.
