A last-second miss from Camilo brought the Vancouver Whitecaps’ winless streak to seven games, as the club tied the Seattle Sounders 0-0 in front of a crowd of 21,000 at a sold-out BC Place Saturday night.

Actually, the Whitecaps offered danger only to the fans who suffered through a match where two wonder strikes -- from the Galaxy's Juninho and David Beckham -- acted as lipstick on a pig of a game that was dreadful on the eyes.

Call it a smash-and-grab. Call it larceny. But there was definitely a sense that the Vancouver Whitecaps left the Ohio capital Saturday night with three points that they had simply stolen from the Columbus Crew.

This was an ugly tearjerker of a game, with the ball stuck in midfield, with both teams cancelling each other out.

It was an ugly game that no one will want to keep on his or her PVR. But, there will be nights like this, when the opponent plays a tight, compact midfield that’s designed more to disrupt than create.

If Rennie decides to field a lot of the RailHawks players when the Whitecaps face FC Edmonton, look for a tasty matchup. Remember that there were several incidents — shoving matches and scuffles in the tunnel — when FCE and Carolina faced each other last season.

The RailHawks won the game on penalties after the Whitecaps’ Davide Chiumiento scored a last-gasp equalizer. It was 2-2 after 90 minutes, but the RailHawks were perfect in the penalty shootout, while the Whitecaps were just two for four.

The Vancouver Whitecaps certainly scored well in the PR department Sunday, as it beat the reigning CIS champion University of Victoria Vikes Sunday, in front of 2,831 fans in the B.C capital.
