Tosaint Ricketts is staying in Norway — but not with Valerenga.

Ricketts is the final player named to a special squad of Edmonton-area players being put together by FCE star Shaun Saiko.

It took till the final match of the Norwegian League season, but Edmonton’s Tosaint Ricketts finally got himself back onto a scoresheet in a European match.

Norwegian side Valerenga announced on transfer deadline day that the Edmonton native has been signed to a contract that will see him finish out the season. But there’s a very big IF involved. At the end of Valerenga’s announcement, it reads (translated from Norwegian) that “the transition requires that the Romanian Football Federation release Ricketts international players’ license.”

The fact that Tosaint Ricketts faces a lengthy spell without club soccer is distressing to national-team coach Stephen Hart.

The Romanian Football Federation is apparently demanding that Dynamo pay a transfer fee in order to retain Ricketts’ rights, something that the German club is not willing to do.

On Wednesday, Ricketts scored the first two goals of the game — one with his foot, and another with his head — and then created three more golden scoring chances as Dynamo Dresden beat German lower-league side VfL Pirna Copitz 8-0 in a summer friendly.

Ricketts was clear that the options that he has on the table all come from European clubs, and that none of them are trials — they are contract offers.
