FC Edmonton now has a radio home. The NASL sides’s home broadcasts will be simulcast on TEAM 1260 throughout the remainder of the season

FC Edmonton will unveil its new Dutch midfielder at halftime of Wednesday’s game against the Carolina RailHawks. The midfielder, who coach Harry Sinkgraven and has been tracking since March, will do his first interview on the FCE TV broadcast with myself and play-by-play man Gareth Hampshire (Broadcast starts at 7:15 p.m. MT at fcedmonton.com) at the conclusion of the first half.

NSC Minnesota keeper Joe Warren was victimized on FC Edmonton’s fluke opening goal, but was the hero down the stretch as the Stars came back to tie the Eddies 1-1 Monday in Blaine, Minn. Warren was named the man of the match even though the goal he allowed wasn’t close to being FCE’s best scoring chance of the evening. But he made two key saves — one off Kyle Porter and another off sub Alex Semenets — in the final minutes to preserve the draw after Devin Del Do scored with less than 10 minutes to tie the game.

At the start of the NASL season, you’d have predicted that any 2011 match between the Carolina RailHawks and the Montreal Impact would be a top-of-table clash. Only the RailHawks have kept their part of the bargain. When surveying the Impact’s 2-0 road loss to Carolina Sunday, you would be excused for assuming that the RailHawks were preparing to jump to MLS next season while Montreal was, well,just a bad team.

So, more and more, NASL clubs are partying like it’s 1979. FC Edmonton is the latest of the NASL teams to announce that it will wear a retro third jersey. The club will wear the old orange-and-blue strip from the Edmonton Drillers’ NASL days.

Ding dong, the witch is dead. That’s how FC Edmonton’s players and supporters feel after they broke their jinx against the Montreal Impact, winning 1-0 at Foote Field Sunday on the strength of a Kyle Porter wonder goal.

American defender Jeffery Quijano is the newest member of FC Edmonton. "He can play right back, centre back," said FCE director of soccer Joe Petrone. "He's a very good young player. We are trying to bring in as many young kids as we can. He's got some speed, he's got some smarts. He's six-foot-one. He fits in with the kind of player we want here. When he gets here, we will see what he can do."

FC Edmonton will try and break its jinx against the Montreal Impact this Sunday. The largest crowd to ever see FC Edmonton play at Foote Field is expected for the weekend match-up, and they’ll want to see the home side, currently sitting second in the NASL table, reverse its recent run of form against the other Canadian team in the league.

FC Edmonton’s Shaun Saiko has been named the NASL’s Offensive Player of the Week. Saiko set up a goal and scored on a perfectly-placed penalty in a 3-0 win over the Puerto Rico Islanders Wednesday at Foote Field.

When the new Ottawa franchise enters the North American Soccer League as an expansion franchise in 2014, it should have all the ingredients in place to have as successful a debut as FC Edmonton has enjoyed in 2011. Ottawa — which was officially announced Monday as a 2014 expansion team — has even more of a local soccer program to build on than FC Edmonton had, said FCE owner Tom Fath.
