After teams from the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League could not make the trip, the University of Sherbrooke’s Vert & Or team, augmented with selected players from the Quebec Elite Soccer League, has accepted the invite to head down to Mexico and represent our country at FIFRA’s world club championships.
According to FIFRA, Edmonton is to play the Ecuadorean national champs Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. local time.
The Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League has been dealt a major blow. Tony Pesce, president of the Winnipeg Alliance, has confirmed that the team won’t play this season — and won’t come back at all unless its travel costs can be eased.

FC Edmonton announced that it has signed Sam Lam, the former University of Alberta standout — and brother of Matt Lam, who returned to Japan this weekend to resume training with JEF United. Sam Lam spent the winter with the Edmonton Drillers of the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League. He was an FCE target — in fact, he was encouraged by FCE to play in the CMISL this season, as he retained his eligibility as an amateur.
Calgary United FC captured its second consecutive Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League Championship Saturday, and punched its ticket to the North American Arena Soccer Championships in Cincinnati, with a 9-3 trouncing over the rival Edmonton Drillers.
