Joseph Di Chiara and Ashtone Morgan will both get their chances to earn their first-ever caps for the Canadian national team. The inclusion of the two youngsters highlights six changes made to the Canadian roster by national men’s team coach Stephen Hart ahead of World Cup qualifiers Oct. 7 in St. Lucia and Oct. 11 against Puerto Rico at Toronto’s BMO Field.

If Canada makes it to the next round of World Cup qualifying, national coach Stephen Hart will consider looking at venues other than Toronto’s BMO Field in which to play the home games.

Joseph Di Chiara could get his first Canadian national-team cap when the senior squad travels to St. Lucia for an Oct. 7 World Cup qualifier.

The Canadian national women’s team will play a schedule of high-profile friendlies ahead of the World Cup, in the stadiums that will be selected to host games for the 2015 event.

“I know it’s disappointing to media and fans that we are not scoring more goals,” said the forward, who plays in England with Preston North End. “But we’re there.”

The new coach of the Canadian women’s program got a good result, a 1-1 draw with the World Cup runner-up United States in Kansas City.

After playing St. Lucia in a qualifier Sept. 2 in Toronto — in which Simpson scored twice, he flew to Puerto Rico with the team to play in a Sept. 6 qualifier, a Tuesday night. By the Thursday, he and Manisaspor teammate Mike Klukowski were in a hotel, prepping for the Turkish league opener.

“Even worse is the news of Atiba Hutchinson, which is likely to go under the knife again,” said Rutten (translated from Dutch). “I am very disappointed, Atiba always gives 120 per cent and so we must analyze how good the rehabilitation process has gone. In all probability he should go back to surgery and I am afraid to have lost him for a while.”

But, because so many of the Fury’s players, including Outerbridge, have NCAA commitments, only one member of the Ottawa team that lost the W-League championship game to Atlanta is part of the roster that new Canadian women’s coach John Herdman will utilize in friendlies Sept. 17 and 22 against the United States.

Hart said there are a “couple of areas” where Canada needs to improve, and he will make roster changes ahead of the next couple of qualifiers. But he won’t say exactly what the problem spots are.
