Canada qualifies for next World Cup round in unconvincing fashion

The Canadian men’s soccer team took the step it was expected to take, winning Group D in the CONCACAF second round of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Needing just a point, Canada did the bare minimum Friday night and came away with a 0-0 draw with St. Kitts and Nevis, the only team that could have caught the Canadians.

Playing in front of what was a very impressively loud, boisterous and passionate crowd at Warner Park on the northern edge of downtown Basseterre, the home side was obviously up for the encounter while, after some early chances in the first few minutes, Canada didn’t look up for the challenge.

All four Canadian pro teams represented on U18 roster

All four of Canada’s MLS and Division-2 professional sides are represented on the roster of the U-18 developmental squad.

This team will gather in Costa Rica Nov. 16-26 under coach Rob Gale. This is a way for the Canadian program to keep tabs on prospects ahead of the next two U-20 World Cups and qualifying for the 2016 Olympics.

There are several familiar faces from the Canadian team that went to the U-17 World Cup in Mexico earlier this season, such as TFC Academy’s Michael Petrasso, Glasgow Rangers’ Luca Gasparotto and FC Edmonton striker (for now) Sadi Jalali.
