After starting the USL season on a six-game winless skid, the Ottawa Fury won twice in the past week, righting the ship with a lot of Canadians on hand.

Well, it was quite a weekend for Canadians in MLS and USL. There were goals aplenty from Canadians in the North American professional leagues.

For the second week in a row, a Canadian has struck against Fresno FC, the new U.S.-based affiliate of the Vancouver Whitecaps.

But, in terms of “most ironic game of the week involving a Canadian player,” let’s focus on last Wednesday’s 2-2 draw between Fresno and Tulsa.

First, congratulations to Real Monarchs’ forward Mastanabal Kacher, who netted a brace in a midweek game against Sounders 2.

And the glaring, obvious truth is that Canada, despite only having one team in CCL, year after year performs better than the United States, which has four slots in the tournament.

Michael Cox enjoyed a historic weekend. He drew the penalty and converted the ensuing spot-kick to give Nashville SC a 1-0 win over Bethlehem Steel. Highlighting this week’s USL action was a goal from Keven Aleman, the former Canadian youth star who’s become somewhat of a forgotten man in the current national team set-up.
