Ubiparipovic signs with Impact for 2012 season

The Montreal Impact now has its fourth player under contract for the 2012 MLS season, and copy editors around Canada will curse the club for it.

American midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic, who spent half of the 2011 NASL season with the Impact, agreed to a deal with the club on Tuesday. He joins defender Nelson Rivas, defender/midfielder Hassoun Camara and keeper Evan Bush as the guys who are locked up for the club’s inaugural MLS campaign.

Ubiparipovic made 69 MLS appearances with the New York Red Bulls between 2007 and 2010, so he is expected to bring some veteran leadership to the team.

FC Edmonton close to new apparel deal, will have new kits in 2012

FC Edmonton will have new kits — and a new apparel provider — for the 2012 season.

The club confirmed Tuesday that it will not be wearing Umbro kits next season, as it did during its inaugural NASL campaign. FCE Director of Operations James Rosnau confirmed that the team is close to a multi-year deal with a “global sports leader” for the team’s jerseys and apparel.

While Rosnau would not confirm which apparel company will have its logo on FC Edmonton’s kits in 2012, there aren’t many from which to choose. Umbro is owned by Nike, so we can rule that conglomerate out of the picture.
