The Canadian Soccer League issued a statement Tuesday morning, claiming that it will fight what it calls a “miscarriage of justice” by the Canadian Soccer Association. The CSL stated it will take whatever steps are necessary to have its national sanction reinstated.

In an interview today, Hill told The 11 that he welcomes the CSA or the CSL to call him to help with the inquiry — and that there is no excuse for delays. “Right now, innocent or guilty, there is a dark cloud hanging over Canadian soccer,” said Hill. “A court has identified a game that it considers suspicious. Done. Let’s get the investigation started. I am not talking about making arrests. I’m not saying that someone is guilty or innocent. But the investigation has to start right away.”

Canadian soccer followers will have to wait for the German courts to wrap up their match-fixing trials before we have any definitive answers over allegations a 2009 CSL match between the Trois-Rivieres Attak and Toronto Croatia was rigged. “The Canadian Soccer Association is taking the lead on the matter and will be working with FIFA,” said CSL chairman Vincent Ursini. “They are waiting for the German court case to complete its findings.”

A 2009 Canadian Soccer League match between the Montreal Impact’s reserve team and Toronto Croatia has been linked to a major European match-fixing ring.
