The North American Soccer League has just announced its American national broadcast schedule for the spring season. Whenever a soccer league that has teams in both the United States and Canada announces its broadcast plans for south of the border, those north of it are often left confused.

The league confirmed that there will be some changes. The network and the league have a partnership that sees one game per weekend — usually a Saturday-night match — broadcast to American and Canadian viewers. There’s also two remaining Wednesday night matches.

Of course, the announcements that the league makes are aimed at American audiences — and they often leave Canadian fans feeling confused.

To call beIN Sport's rollout of its online Canadian service a "soft launch" might be a bit of an understatement.

This is the thing. Your leagues — Serie A, La Liga and, yes, even the English Championship — they’re the hot girl who treated you like crap in high school but you kept trying to talk to her anyway. You’d fall over yourself to watch those games, even though those leagues sold their Canadian rights to a broadcaster that didn’t have a Canadian licence.

But, this is what we know. There is no current application in front of the CRTC for a broadcast licence in Canada, which beIN would need to make its signal available here.
