Omar Bravo won the hearts and minds of soccer reporters across the continent, capturing the first Player of the Week award of the MLS season.
Bravo, Sporting Kansas City’s Mexican Designated Player, scored twice as his new club travelled to Los Angeles and edged Chivas USA 3-2. As Bravo once starred for Chivas Guadalajara, the irony was too good to pass up.
But it wasn’t the kind of week where Bravo stood out ahead of the pack; Vancouver Whitecap Eric Hassli bagged two goals and bullied Toronto FC’s backline in his club’s first-ever MLS game. Charlie Davies, returning from injuries sustained in a serious motor vehicle accident, scored twice for D.C. United. But one of those came on a penalty, so that likely hurt his chances.
