TFC deals No. 1 pick — does it increase chances of a Bekker homecoming? On Wednesday, the Reds, who had the No. 1 and No. 3 picks in Thursday’s draft — sent that top pick to the New England Revolution. The Reds get an undisclosed amount of allocation money and the No. 4 pick. And the first thing that comes to mind is Kyle Bekker. The Oakville, Ont. midfielder has been the story of the combine, dominating the competition with the ball and his feet and scoring a couple of goals, to boot. PHOTO: MLS If TFC wants Bekker, and that’s a big if, it’s a smart move to take the four pick and the dough. Bekker will likely still be on the board by the time TFC drafts three and four, and it still allows the Reds a chance to get a hometown prospect before the Whitecaps pick at No. 5. Chivas picks at No. 2 and is likely to take Connecticut midfielder Carlos Alvarez. That leaves the No. 1 pick as a race between Furman’s Walker Zimmerman, Louisville’s Andrew Farrell and Indiana’s Eriq Zavaleta. But the fact that New England included Bekker on its online “what to with the No. 1 pick” poll shows that the Canadian is on the radar.
