There were some notable performances for Canadians this past week in the three Div-1 and 2 leagues in North America.

FC Edmonton’s Allan Zebie scored his first NASL goal, and it stood as the winner as the Eddies defeated the San Francisco Deltas 2-1 in the league’s unofficial Canadian derby; the Deltas played three Canadians in the game and are coached by Canadian Marc Dos Santos.

Tesho Akindele scored for FC Dallas in a midweek 3-3 draw against Houston. And Michael Cox scored twice for Orlando City’s B side in a USL thrashing of Mark-Anthony Kaye and his Louisville City side.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the Whitecaps, who are far behind the Impact and Toronto FC when it comes to giving playing time to Canadian players in 2017, gave 208 minutes to Canadians in this weekend’s 2-1 win over Orlando City.

Here are this week’s rankings:

“Finally, it should be mentioned that the Whitecaps, who are far behind the Impact and Toronto FC when it comes to giving playing time to Canadian players in 2017, gave 208 minutes to Canadians ”

What is this “giving” thing I keep hearing? This is SUPPOSED to be top level pro soccer in Canada & USA so there is no “giving” anything. Minutes and positions are TAKEN in pro sports.

Laba injured and Marcel de Jong plays the DM role very well. Here’s hoping he is Laba’s replacement. He’s played LB, LM, CB, RB and now DM so he is the type of player who will replace Jacobson.

Tchani was out on suspension and Jacobson was gassed from 2 games in 4 nights so Teibert got the time but didn’t do as well as Marcel. He seemed to get better later but early on was very poor.

Davies came in was electric for 28 minutes. Played good and in the bunker and counter that we were doing he showed his skills.

They TOOK the minutes because the coach had no better options. To promote the idea that they were “given” minutes is to patronize players. They earned it. Now we’ll see if they can keep it. It never ends.
