Former TFC Academy prospect Michael Petrasso will leave for English Premier side Queens Park Rangers this weekend. Dylan Carreiro, his former TFC Academy teammate, will have to wait.

The pair have been working out with SC Toronto, whose pro team plays in the Canadian Soccer League, since they parted ways with Toronto FC. SC Toronto coach Carmine Isacco confirmed in an e-mail to The 11 that Petrasso is set to leave for QPR this weekend, while paperwork issues will keep Carreiro at home a little while longer.

Petrasso played for Canada at both the CONCACAF U-17 Championships and the U-17 World Cup, while Carreiro played at the CONCACAF tourney.

The pair garnered media attention in January, when Carreiro tweeted that they were ready to sign with QPR. Soon after the unfortunate tweet, the teenager made his account private. The 11 contacted QPR in January, but the club denied that either of the Canadian kids were there or had signed with the club. Nevertheless, Carreiro’s tweet became a hot topic of TFC-fan message boards.

Toronto FC spokesman Mike Masaro said TFC released the teens because the club only wants players who commit themselves to the club.

“The players wanted to explore other avenues — ones that the club didn’t think were in their best interest development wise but in the end, the club wants players who want to be here. They didn’t so they are no longer members of Toronto FC.”

And so goes another complicated saga involving TFC Academy. Remember that last May, the club announced it had parted ways with Keven Aleman, Dino Gardiner, and Jonathan Lao after none of those three would sign a letter of commitment to remain in the club. The Vancouver Whitecaps were believed to have acquired Aleman’s MLS rights, but he successfully joined Spanish side Real Valladolid.
