PHOTO: FC EDMONTON Canadian striker Michael Cox could not come to terms with FC Edmonton on a new deal and will look for other opportunities in 2014. The team made the announcement Friday afternoon. Cox scored three times in NASL play this season. His campaign was cut short thanks to an MCL injury he suffered Sept. 15 after colliding with Fort Lauderdale Strikers’ keeper Richard Sanchez. “Michael Cox has played hard for FC Edmonton over the past three years, and he has gathered his share of followers here in Edmonton,” said FCE General Manager Rod Proudfoot. “He is a fine young man and we sincerely wish him the best of luck in following his dream.” Coach Colin Miller said that the team would be making some announcements about player movement in the next month or so. The Eddies have two games left on the schedule, at home to Tampa on Sunday and then on the road to Fort Lauderdale the following weekend. “I want to thank the owner, Tom Fath, for giving me an opportunity, the coaching staff that has helped me develop over the years and the great support from the fans,” Cox said in the same release. “I wish FC Edmonton all the best in the future.” Cox scored 10 times in 50 appearances for the Eddies, and was named the NASL player of the week for a two-goal performance against Atlanta in the spring season.
