Canadian defender LeRoy signs with Harrisburg City Islanders

Adrian LeRoy

Former FC Edmonton defender and Ottawa product Adrian LeRoy has found a new home.

LeRoy will spend the 2012 season with the Harrisburg City Islanders of USL-PRO. That club used to be the home of current FCE midfielder Dominic Oppong.

LeRoy spent last season with FCE, but never broke through into the first-team ranks. His time on the pitch in NASL action was limited to an appearance as a sub in the 5-0 playoff loss to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and three minutes of regular-season action.

The central defender trained with FC Dallas earlier this season.

“It means a lot to me to be part of the Harrisburg City Islanders organization — a top professional USL club,” LeRoy was quoted in a release issued by the Ottawa Fury, the PDL club where he played two seasons ago. “They’re strongly affiliated with Philadelphia Union of the MLS and have a great reputation of bringing players into higher leagues.”

LeRoy was discovered by FCE in 2010, when the Eddies played a series of friendlies in order to prepare for its NASL debut in 2011. LeRoy and the Fury played Edmonton, and the Eddies were impressed enough to open negotiations with him.

Ironically, LeRoy is a friend of Kenny Caceros, the ex-Fury player who just signed with FCE a few weeks ago. Caceros and LeRoy have traded places, and LeRoy is off to try and rejuvenate his career.
